Limone Piemonte is located near the Colle di Tenda pass and is the main ski resort in the province of Cuneo, both for the total length of the slopes and for the number of ski lifts. Born as a holiday resort and summer stay in the late nineteenth century, Limone was, already at the beginning of the twentieth century, among the first Italian places where winter sports spread.

Limone Piemonte, located in the heart of the Maritime Alps, is one of Italy’s most famous and popular ski resorts, renowned for its extraordinary range of winter activities and the beauty of its mountain landscapes. Surrounded by imposing peaks and immersed in nature, Limone is not only a paradise for snow sports enthusiasts; it is also a place rich in history, culture and traditions, representing a unique fusion between the mountains and everyday life.
The surrounding mountains offer 80 km of slopes divided into three areas: Limone-Sole, Tre Amis and Limonetto. These areas are a real playground for skiers and snowboarders of all levels. The slopes, which wind through coniferous forests and breathtaking views, are suitable for beginners and experts alike, allowing everyone to enjoy the magic of snow. Limone Piemonte is also famous for the quality of its snow, which offers unforgettable experiences and a ski season that lasts for several months of the year.
A bit of history
The historical importance of the village lies in its origins, dating back to ancient times, when it was an important transit point between Piedmont and the Riviera di Ponente. Its strategic position made Limone an essential stop for travellers and merchants, as well as a safe haven for those travelling along the Colle di Tenda road. The mountain community of the Alpi del Mare has given Limone a unique identity, making it known even beyond national borders.
Thanks to an efficient network of road and rail links, Limone Piemonte is easily accessible from various locations, making it an ideal destination for a weekend or a longer holiday. The modernity of its ski lifts, combined with its tradition as a summer resort, has allowed Limone to evolve into a place that offers both high-altitude thrills and moments of relaxation surrounded by nature.
At the beginning of the 20th century, Limone enthusiastically welcomed the advent of winter sports. The slopes hosted prestigious competitions, such as the Italian Alpine Ski Championships and World Cup races, making the resort a benchmark for fans of this sport. These events helped to give Limone further visibility and consolidate its reputation as one of the best ski resorts in the country.
The beauty of the country
The historic centre of Limone Piemonte is what strikes visitors most. Its vibrant and welcoming soul is characterised by a network of narrow streets and small squares, where time seems to have stood still. The main square, overlooking the Town Hall, is the beating heart of the village, a meeting place for tourists and residents alike. Here you can find quaint shops, traditional restaurants and cafés where you can enjoy local specialities, particularly dishes based on typical mountain produce.
One of the intriguing features of the village is its historic architecture, with stone buildings, flower-filled balconies and unique details that tell the story of the daily life of its inhabitants over the centuries. The clean air and picturesque views invite you to take long walks through the narrow streets, where you can appreciate the authentic atmosphere and warmth of the local people.
During the tourist season, Limone comes alive thanks to a large pedestrian area that allows you to move around easily, without car traffic. This space is perfect for shopping, walking and socialising, creating a festive and relaxed atmosphere.
Nature lovers can also explore the surroundings of the village, taking advantage of itineraries that wind through the Italian-French natural parks. Hiking, walking and climbing are just some of the opportunities Limone offers for spending unforgettable moments immersed in the beauty of nature.
