San Giovanni Fair
The San Giovanni Fair is the most important and heartfelt event in Spilamberto, an event that takes place every year around 24 June to celebrate the patron saint St. John the Baptist and enliven the town with music, traditions and authentic flavours.
For the occasion, Spilamberto dresses up for the festivities: associations, local organisations and the municipal administration collaborate to create a rich and engaging programme that attracts thousands of visitors. The Fair is a large stage dedicated to typical local products, with exhibitions of agriculture, crafts and local industry that showcase the productive identity of the area.
One of the most eagerly awaited events is the Palio di San Giovanni, linked to the gastronomic excellence that symbolises the area: Traditional Balsamic Vinegar of Modena. During the Fair, the members of the Consorteria (Consortium) meet for their annual assembly and award the coveted prize for the best family-produced balsamic vinegar, a moment of great prestige and pride for the community.
The programme is completed by musical performances, sports competitions, exhibitions, workshops for children, the traditional market in Via Obici and numerous refreshment points where you can sample the local cuisine. There is also an area dedicated to animal welfare, with initiatives and activities in the picturesque Parco della Rocca, which allow visitors to learn about the animal world in an educational and engaging way.
The San Giovanni Fair is not just a patron saint’s festival: it is a moment of collective identity, an opportunity to promote traditions, food and wine excellence and community spirit, transforming Spilamberto into a place of encounter, culture and conviviality.
