Marano Native Hop Festival
The Marano Native Hop Festival is an event dedicated to exploring the ancient brewing traditions and artisanal excellence of the Marano sul Panaro area. An event that celebrates the historic link between this village in the province of Modena and hop cultivation, the focus of a major project to promote agriculture and culture.
The origins of this tradition date back to 1876, the year in which the first hop crops in Italy were documented, specifically in the Marano sul Panaro area, on the estate of the Marquis Montecuccoli, considered the first Italian grower of the plant. Since 2012, the Municipality has been promoting a research project in collaboration with the University of Parma to recover and study the local hop germplasm adapted to foothill environments.
This initiative led in 2017 to the registration of three indigenous Italian varieties: M/P Futura, M/P Aemilia and M/P MODNA, symbols of an agricultural production that is both distinctive and innovative.
During the summer festival, the village comes alive with tastings of craft beers made with local hops, street food, live music and events dedicated to brewing culture. It’s the perfect opportunity to discover authentic flavours, meet producers and enjoy a convivial atmosphere amidst the hills of Modena.
The Native Hops Festival is now a unique event on the Italian calendar, bringing together agricultural history, scientific research, tradition and conviviality in a celebration dedicated to flavour and the local area.
