Polenta and Traditional Flavours Festival

📅 26 September 2026 – 4 October 2026

The Polenta and Traditional Flavours Festival is one of the most eagerly awaited autumn events in Guiglia, in the heart of the Modena Apennines. Scheduled to take place from 26 September to 4 October 2026, this historic event celebrates the local culinary tradition through authentic flavours, folk music and moments of conviviality that evoke the atmosphere of village festivals of yesteryear.

The undisputed star of the event is, of course, polenta, prepared using ancient traditional techniques in large, steaming cauldrons by expert chefs who still guard the secrets of peasant cuisine. Soft, steaming and full of flavour, the polenta is served with various typical condiments or in the famous fried version known as calzagatti, an Emilian speciality loved for its rustic and authentic taste.

Alongside the polenta, the festival offers a true journey through the flavours of the Modena Apennines with traditional dishes such as pasta e fagioli, strictly handmade crescentine and numerous local food and wine specialities prepared according to recipes handed down through the generations. Every dish reflects the simplicity and wisdom of Emilian peasant cuisine, made up of wholesome ingredients and great conviviality.

Over the two weekends of the event, the village of Guiglia comes alive with live music, dancing, shows and entertainment for all ages, creating a festive atmosphere that draws in both residents and visitors. The festival is, in fact, not just a culinary event, but also an important occasion for celebrating folk traditions and local culture.

Amidst the aromas of cooking, the warmth of the cauldrons and the sounds of folk music, the Polenta and Ancient Flavours Festival remains one of the most beloved autumn festivals in the Modena area, ideal for rediscovering the pleasure of good food and Emilian hospitality.
