Contesa del Pozzo della Polenta
From 10 to 12 June 2026, Corinaldo will once again host the spectacular ‘Contesa del Pozzo della Polenta’, the oldest historical re-enactment in the province of Ancona, now in its 45th year.
For three days, this village in the Marche region transforms into a vast open-air theatre, transporting visitors and residents back in time to 1517, the year of Corinaldo’s victory over the siege led by Francesco Maria della Rovere. The streets of the historic centre thus come alive with drums, flags, performances and a Renaissance atmosphere that captivates young and old alike.
The town’s four districts will compete in traditional historical games — tug-of-war, the game of the bell and the archers’ contest — to win the title of the event’s winning district. A much-anticipated moment that sparks rivalry, pride and popular participation throughout the village.
The festival will also feature travelling shows with musicians, flag-wavers, jugglers, dancers and street performers, as well as craft markets where visitors can rediscover ancient crafts and local traditions.
The highlight of the event will be the grand historical procession, featuring hundreds of participants in Renaissance costumes crafted by Corinaldo’s seamstresses, who will parade through the narrow streets and squares, offering a captivating and enchanting spectacle.
Gastronomy will also take centre stage, with historic taverns serving polenta, traditional dishes and specialities from the Marche region throughout the event.
The Contesa will conclude with the announcement of the winning district and the traditional firing of the famous Cannone di Fico, a symbolic salute heralding the next edition.
