Feast of the Madonna di Portosalvo
The Feast of the Madonna di Portosalvo is one of the most cherished summer events in Marina di Ascea, taking place every year from 26 to 28 August, combining devotion, tradition and moments of popular celebration.
The highlight of the celebrations is the evocative sea procession, held on 27 August: the statue of the Madonna is carried by boat along the coast, accompanied by numerous festively decorated vessels. A moving and spectacular ritual, it attracts both the faithful and visitors and represents one of the most intense moments of the event.
The festivities begin on 26 August with a procession through the streets of the hamlet, whilst on 28 August they conclude with a grand concert in Piazza Europa, filled with music and conviviality.
Over the course of the three days, the town centre also comes alive with the traditional fair along the main street, featuring stalls, local produce and entertainment, making the atmosphere even more vibrant and lively.
The festival has its roots in local history: the statue of the Madonna, originally housed in a chapel built between 1938 and 1939, is now kept in the mother church built in 1954, becoming a symbol of devotion and identity for the community.
The Feast of the Madonna di Portosalvo is a unique opportunity to experience the sea, faith and tradition during one of the most authentic moments of the Cilento summer.
